Arkansas basketball's Darius Acuff sweeps AP SEC awards

FAYETTEVILLE — Arkansas men’s basketball guard Darius Acuff was named SEC Player and Freshman of the Year by the Associated Press on Tuesday. The awards came one day after he swept the awards as voted on by the league’s coaches.

Acuff, a 6-foot-3 rookie, averaged 22.2 points and 6.4 assists per game this season to lead the SEC in both statistics. He was the first player to reach that mark since LSU’s Pete Maravich, who played for the Tigers from 1967-70. He led the Razorbacks to a 23-8 finish with a 13-5 in conference play.

Acuff was also named as a finalist for the Bob Cousy Award on Monday for the nation’s top point guard.
