Everton boss Ronald Koeman's proposed return to Barcelona has been thrown into doubt after it emerged that the Dutchman holds a release clause of £6.7m in his current contract.
The former Barcelona midfielder, who won 10 major honours during his time at the Nou Camp, had been tipped to return this summer and succeed the outgoing Luis Enrique.
And although Barca were originally keen on forcing through the deal, according to Sport, the release clause in Koeman's current contract is just too high.
Real Sociedad's Eusebio Sancristan, RB Salzburg's Óscar García Junyent, Jorge Sampaoli of Sevilla and Liverpool's Jurgen Klopp are also in the frame for the role.
