Ronald Koeman spoke of his pride after officially opening a ‘Cruyff Court’ on Everton in the Community’s Spellow Lane facility.
Situated a stone’s throw away from Goodison Park, the football pitch becomes the latest of 225 to be opened across the globe since the Johan Cruyff Foundation began 20 years ago.
Speaking at the unveiling, Blues boss Koeman revealed Cruyff - his football idol and former coach at Ajax and Barcelona - was mightily impressed with Everton’s work in the local area before his passing in March last year.
“He would smile,” said Koeman, when asked about what he thought Cruyff would make of the site.
