On this day in 1978, Andy King scored THAT famous volley against Liverpool to continue Everton’s best ever start to a season, stretching the Blues’ unbeaten run from the opening weekend to 17 games in all competitions.
Everton were chasing Liverpool, who were one place ahead of them in top spot as they made the trip to Goodison Park.
The only goal of the contest came in the 58th minute when Mike Pejic crossed the ball to the edge of the box, where King was waiting.
He struck a right-footed volley that sailed into the top right corner in front of 53,131 fans that had packed in to watch the 164th Merseyside derby.
