The Minnesota Twins have granted right-handed reliever Liam Hendriks his release, according to The Athletic's Dan Hayes.
The move is a bit surprising. Hendriks signed a minor-league deal with the Twins last month with hopes of making an Opening Day bullpen that is full of uncertainties. Although Hendriks has struggled and missed time due to injuries and recovering from lymphoma in recent years, he was arguably the best closer in baseball not too long ago.
It's not like Hendriks, 37, has had a terrible spring training, either. In seven innings across seven outings, Hendriks has allowed three runs on nine hits, five walks and a hit batter while collecting five strikeouts.
